
Region Five Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a technique designed to explore, enhance and support a client’s motivation and commitment to change.
Training will explore the key principles of this non-confrontational, collaborative technique to include assessing stages of change and how best to approach each one.
Participants will develop and practice language and skills that support the ‘spirit’ of this process designed to increase partnership, acceptance and compassion within the therapeutic relationship and empowerment for the client.
This training offers CEUs.

Meet Your Trainers
Darilyn Williams received her Master of Social Work from Our Lady Of The Lake University in San Antonio, TX with an emphasis in children, youth, adults, and families. She has over 10 years of experience working with the mental health population and specializes in working with children and youth ranging from 5-18 years of age, and adults. Her areas of focus are serious mental illness, depression, anxiety, anger management, trauma, and providing intensive crisis services including crisis de-escalation. Darilyn utilizes various treatment modalities to effectively address client’s needs, to enhance their overall well-being. Darilyn is currently under supervision to be a licensed clinical social worker and certified substance abuse counselor. She has certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) specializing in trauma and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, Positive Approach to Care Coach where she trains individuals and families on how to engage and support those with a dementia or Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
Karin Duncan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), currently serving as the Internal Training Coordinator at Western Tidewater Community Services Board. With two decades experience in the human services, criminal justice and counseling fields, Karin has extensive experience working with high-risk adolescents and their families as well those who struggle with substances and issues surrounding addiction. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College’s Master of Social Work program, Karin’s commitment to ongoing education and training for those in the mental health field emphasizes her belief in the importance of being a life-long learner in order to foster meaningful, successful therapeutic relationships.
