
Region Five SBIRT Training
This two-hour, virtual training will provide learners with an understanding of SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment, an evidence-based approach designed to identify individuals with substance use disorders as well as those who may be at risk for developing these disorders.
Learn more about screening tools that can assess the severity of substance use and determine the appropriate level of treatment, brief interventions intended to promote education, awareness and motivation towards change and referring those to treatment who may need more specialized care regarding their substance use.

Trainer: Karin Duncan LCSW, CSAC
Karin Duncan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), currently serving as the Internal Training Coordinator at Western Tidewater Community Services Board.
With two decades experience in the human services, criminal justice, and counseling fields, Karin has extensive experience working with high-risk adolescents and their families as well those who struggle with substances and issues surrounding addiction.
A graduate of Bryn Mawr College’s Master of Social Work program, Karin’s commitment to ongoing education and training for those in the mental health field emphasizes her belief in the importance of being a life-long learner to foster meaningful, successful therapeutic relationships.
