Safety Planning and Lethal Means Counseling

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • – Identify the two leading theories of suicide, their core components, and how they directly shape safety planning and lethal means counseling.
  • – Implement evidenced-based suicide safety planning tools.
  • – Describe an environmentally based approach to suicide care, including specific strategies to apply this approach.

Trainer: Adam Graham

Adam Graham is a licensed professional counselor and clinical consultant with TBD Solutions. With over 15 years of experience in the community mental health system, Adam has served in roles ranging from crisis counselor to Director of Emergency Psychiatric Services with Mental Health Cooperative in Nashville, TN. During these 15 years Adam partnered with the FBI, Secret Service, and Department of Homeland Security to enhance crisis treatment and prevent violence for individuals interacting with federal law enforcement and were experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Additionally, Adam has worked as a contract behavioral health threat assessment consultant with Google and YouTube, as an adjunct professor in Vanderbilt University’s graduate counselor program, as a private practice counselor, and as an international volunteer aid worker.
